Seasonal Care for Your Solar Screens & Retractable Awnings

Eclipse retractable awnings and solar screens take very little care to keep them looking great and performing the way they’re supposed to. You can extend the life and appearance of your shading products with a few simple maintenance precautions. If you will be out of town or will not be using your awnings for extended periods of time, remember to retract your awnings and turn off the controls. Retract your awnings when winds above 18 miles per hour are expected or when heavy rain, freezing rain, or snow is in the forecast. You may wish to simply keep your awnings retracted when you’re not using them to make sure they don’t get damaged.

Keep the barbecue and shrubbery away from the awnings to prevent smoke or plant acid damage to the fabric and the hardware. Never force your crank-operating awning to open if there’s resistance. Keep pesticides, solvents, and spot removing chemicals away from your awning fabric to prevent stains, discoloration, and to keep the water repellent attributes intact. Carefully dry-brush the underside of your awning and use a stiff brush to remove dirt and debris. Hose off the top of the awning and let it completely dry before retracting. If additional cleaning is necessary, use a mild soap and soft brush. Keep an eye out for rust stains and never let standing water accumulate on the awning fabric.
